DivX 7 for Mac
May 9, 2009 | No Comments | Cool Software
Finally, the released of the DivX for Mac 7 . Although, it’s new but it doesn’t have many new improvements, but only the new compatible feature. The MKV file playback high definition compatibility.
Another difference is that, anybody who do not have a Mac with Intel processor and at least Mac OS X Tiger (10.4) with Quicktime 7 install, can not use the new DivX 7. So version 6 is still good after all.
Of course the codec is free, as always, and if you want the Pro version, and the role of DivX Converter will pay about $ 19 U.S. dollars. Anyway free download comes with a free access to the Pro for six months and one at Covert for 15 days.
Version 7.0 features:
- DivX Player 7.0 now supports playback of DivX Plus files (.mkv/H.264/AAC) and has an updated UI
- DivX Codec 6.8.3 has been updated to include:
- Up to 50% faster decoding on multi-core computers for better HD Playback
- New custom matrices that allow for better fine tuning of encoder for specific content type
- DivX Converter 1.3.1 has been updated to work on Leopard (and to work in general)
- DivX for Mac 7.0 is now officially supported on Intel machines only
I think that nobody should be spending money on software which can’t be developed for PowerPC at this age. Especially of this nature.
Things will change when Snow Leopard is out and we will see “snow leopard only”, “intel 64 bit only” software, it is a fact of technical nature but for today, there is no reason rather than incompetence and not knowing the mac scene to release a codec/player Intel only. There is nothing that forces you to release Intel only software even if you make the application Leopard-only. Of course, if you are in such bad shape and can’t even hire couple of PPC capable developers.
If you read the information on the DivX site, youll notice that does not include any MKV H264 encoder or updates to the Mac version of DivX 7. The strange thing Mac users having for years, but MPEGs MP4 container. Not a big deal.
DivX Converter 7.0 is version 1.3 is still usable PPC CPU.
DivX 7.0 encoder 6.8 CPU PPC component remains usable. (Some nice new features)
DivX 7.0 Decoder component PPC CPU is still usable.
DivX Web 7.0 plugin 1.4.1.4 CPU PPC remains usable.
Only the player requires Intell CPU chip, but you can use Quicktime 7 (which gives a Quicktime component as above ^ ^ and Peri plugin to play MKV Anyway, if you must.
If you need to make a single player for DivX, that still work for PPC users only can wait ether (SI) to fix errors or remove the PPC installer components and manually add them to your PPC.
