With a few simple steps, you can eliminate the MacBook and MacBook Pro’s battery overheating issues and extend the battery’s life.

The MacBook and MacBook Pro performance significantly better than their predecessors. As you may already know that faster processors (even with the optimization of energy they are capable of the Intel chip) require more power to operate, and that automatically means more heat. The MacBook and MacBook Pro, especially, seem to warm up when the processor is in extensive tasks and also when the battery is recharging.

The bad news is that heat is always bad for your MacBook. The heat issue is leading many users facing shorter battery life as well as the MacBook’s life itself. Even find themselves surfing the net while burning their own laps in the process.

Although Apple states that the battery in the MacBook Pro 15″ can hold charge about 4.5 hours, but everybody knows that that is hold true for the first few months after used. Therefore, you might want to extend the battery life by follow the procedures:

1. Ideally, you should upgrade your battery firmware to the latest version, this proved to extend any apple notebook batteries to hold charge about 1 hour or a little more. I have upgrade my battery’s firmware with great result. I did it on my Powerbook G4 1 Ghz and MacBook Core Duo 2 Ghz. As a result, those firmwares radically gave the new life to my batteries to hold charge about over an hour more. It’s like a magic! Now i don’t have to think about buying new batteries for quite a while.

2. When MacBook start to heat up, if you don’t like it, just save some energy by opening the Energy Saver pane of System Preferences, choose battery from the drop-down menu settings, and change the parameter optimization in Battery life improved. This will be immediately activated other options, such as Put the display to sleep when the computer is idle for a minute and Processor Performance Limited. The normal daily operations may run a little more slowly, but it is most likely that it passes unnoticed.

3. While you have the Energy Saver pane open, select the option to sleep Put the hard disk when you can even disk activity consumes energy. You can reduce the brightness of the screen, using the F1 key or by opening the Displays pane of System Preferences and moving the Brightness slider. You can also disable the feature that automatically adjusts screen brightness to changing ambient light. And if you do not need, disabled AirPort (click the AirPort icon in the menu bar and select Disable AirPort) or Bluetooth (via the Bluetooth pane of System Preferences).

4. Charge your MacBook, iBook, Powerbook battery the proper way, and do the calibration (this can be applied to all Powerbook and iBook too) once in a while.

To get the most from the battery, there should be a complete cycle of charging at least once a month. To do that, just leave your MacBook on until it runs out of power then goes to sleep by itself. Next, plug the power adapter to let the battery fully charges. This is a good practice especially for those who usually works ever leaving the laptop plugged. Moreover, you can also track the current capacity status of your battery, using a utility software such as CoconutBattery, which keeps track of battery capacity over time.
