After some time I am going to write this part of what I had promised myself not to write more. I am proud as a Mac OS X user for almost over 8 years but for many reasons use Windows and Linux without slightest hesitation when necessary and I believe and I believe that each operating system has its advantages and disadvantages.

The above command will replace the user name with the user’s actual name and delete it.

I’ve heard that Snow Leopard is said to have bigger changes “under the hood” and therefore invisible to the end user, if not in terms of performance. Everybody knows changing the long name is just a walk in a park. Just typing a new name in System Preferences > Accounts. However, short name isn’t quite the same. I have seen some of my friends just brutally try to change that by renaming the folder and the whole system went sideways. Consequently, had to reinstall the whole system.

From what i’ve discovered, in order to change the short name, there are two ways to do it. One is to create a new account and transfering all the previous system data into the new created account. Another way to change the short name is for more advanced user which involves a lot of command code typing in the Unix terminal. However, typing is all you need to do. You don’t need to transfer anything with this method. Fortunately, there’s a little cool software that can manage this task for you. Many of us believe that this is the last update of the Mac operating system OS X 10.5 before the big hit – Snow Leopard. The update with the number 10.5.7 is now available for long enough so that the first solutions for any emerging problems were found. For those who do not know what the HFS + filesystem is Mac OS X uses to format your partitions, and is usually used by all the disks that are managed only with Apple computers.
